Your Nucking Futz! That's why god invented helicopters... so you don't have to walk up mountains!!! Cheers, Pete. P.S. Nice piccies!
hah hah hah... It was only 14km The weather was just unbelievable. About 12 on the summit, 20 in Thredbo and 30 in Jindabyne. I was amazed how much snow was still about!!
So were you happy with it during the time you had it going?
Oh yeah mate very happy. I was just riding it around in the slow group and staying out of the way. The bike feels great, well balanced and it pulls like a train. I think the big carbon snorkle and airbox work well as the bike top ends brilliantly. I reckon it will pull 260+kph when I get myself up to speed on the track. It is also very areodynamic as you would know after sitting on it.

Thank God for that! I was doing some "snooping around" on the 'net and was worried when I didnt see any pics of you after the first couple of sessions. I thought you may have taken the short cut between turn 1 and Bass Straight!
I hope you sort the electrical issues. I, for one, am aware of the need for a bit of fine tuning on any new bike you buy.

Thankfully I put my tips in this week and have resumed my rightful position ahead of Ita. Im only 3 points behind VG too so all is looking good for an overall 2nd place!
Last round coming up - lets all get involved and see what we can do!
Man that shit's me. I got back from the track day and rushed off to bowls without giving tipping a thought!! I always tip Saturday night. Fucking stupid time zones!!!
I'm gunna have to have a stellar round to get back on the podium

Rhonda misbehaved at her first track day...
Charging isues... It would appear the alternator is not charging the battery!!! I got two sessions in and that was it... No more start and fucking hard to bump start!!! She will be off to see the auto electrician in the next couple of weeks... I may have dislodged some wiring when taking the fairings on and off....
Easy to ride and very stable. I was getting 220kph in the first session while scubbing the new tyres in and 245kph in the second session when warming up to track pace!! (Very aerodynamic) It was great riding a bike after nearly a year off and nearly two years off the track...

It certainly does Ita! I kinda accepted the way it was as it is 14 years old, but it is riding like a new bike now. So I have learnt a lesson out of this as well.
I bought some heated grips on the weekend and installed them yesterday. I found that the throttle was binding a bit and not returning as it should. So I took apart the switchblock, took off the throttle tube and rubbed back the bar with some fine sandpaper and cleaned the inside of the throttle tube and now it snaps back like a pre-menstrual woman!

Rhonda's first track day booked on Oct 23.
I've booked into the slow group as the first few sessions will be just a shake down getting used to the bike and I will ride at not much more than road pace. That's the problem with a race bike!! No chance to ride it anywhere except the track!!
Both medium and medium fast groups were booked out so Bob (ex ZRX x2 and Fizzy) has ended up in the fast group on his brand new CBR1000rr!!

Re: GPZ First Ride « Result #19 on Oct 6, 2009, 11:36am »
Updating the adventures of GPZ1100 ownership:
I realised the reason for the back pushing the front (as I wrote in my "First Ride" report above) wasnt being helped by a rear tyre which was flat in the middle. Then a stray nail forced my hand into getting a new tyre, which is heaps better. Turns beautifully now and stays down through the corner instead of feeling like Im riding one of those plastic blow-up punching clowns that has water in the bottom and keeps coming back upright.
So, so far I have a new front tyre, new chain, new front and rear sprockets and a new rear tyre. Sweet.
A few weeks ago, I went to get on the bike only to find my numberplate was missing. One corner was still attached which makes me think that some bastard stole it. Pain in the arse not only because I couldnt ride it all weekend, but it cost $50 I didnt have to replace it.
Nevermind, these things happen.
So onto this weekend just gone and I decided that I'd get the GPZ ready for my upcoming trip to the Island. I dont want any repeat of the Canberra ride. I bought myself a cush drive, bought new brake pads - front and rear, bought some new brake fluid, bought a rego holder (mine was stolen along with the plate) and a new 50+ H4 bulb.
Firstly, the brake fluid. Never, ever - not even in my old Katana, GPX600 or ZXRH1 - have I seen the crap that I found in my front brake fluid reservoir of the GPZ. I was starting to worry when I took the screws out of the reservoir lid and they had a rusty powder on them, but when I opened it up, it was like Golden Syrup mixed with used fish and chip shop oil. It was so thick and gluggy that I had to sacrifice a toothbrush and a towel to clean the residue from the inside surfaces of the reservoir once I'd removed the old fluid. It left a film at least 1mm thick in there. So I flushed it all out and saw that the old fluid was aerated - not just isolated air bubbles, but the whole lot was aerated with millions of tiny air bubbles throughout. So I got rid of them and I now feel like I have brakes straight off a GP bike. Awesome.
The cush drive really made a difference too. With the old one in place, I could move my wheel probably about 10mm before the chain moved. Now its as tight as a (insert own analogy here) and the on/off throttle is as smooth as anything Ive ever ridden - and smoother than some new FI bikes (anyone ridden a GSR?). Beautiful!
So as you can imagine, with two new tyres, brake pads, brake fluid, chain, sprockets and cush drive, the bike is an altogether different one to the one I purchased in June!
I think the last thing I'll do before PI is the oil and filter. The lack of care and maintenance found in other parts of the bike dont fill me with much confidence as to how long the oil and filter have been in there.
