The Grampions is well worth a look. « Thread Started on Aug 21, 2006, 8:27pm »
Even with the last Xmas bush fires lapping at the doors of Halls Gap, and a fair chunk of the national park being burnt, with spring time knocking at our door early this year, the green is returning. The minister and I just got back from a weekend away, the roads are great, a bit of the tight stuff and a good mix off the fast stuff too, the sights are brilliant. Just need more than a weekend.
Here's a place the minister found on the net. Great meals good atmosphere. Small rooms a couple of minutes walk from the bar at the end of the night. Winter rates at $30 for 2 cosy with open fire.
Well worth a captain cook before the hot season sets in.

Nice pics Mick, which way did you go to get to Halls Gap?
I wouldn't mind doing an overnighter out that way. I was thinking about going Ballarat - Pomonal - Halls Gap, then come back by riding down to Dunkeld and to Melbourne on the Hamilton highway. Know of any god backroads?

The planned route to get there mid saturday morning, was shoot out door, the Minister of War and Finances, (she who must be obeyed) is now 4 months up the duff. So by the time we actually got going from the eastern burbs, and the stops every hour, and less, demanded by the minister. So it was 1pm before we made it to the outshirts of Ballart. So having an idea of how the rest of the trip was going to pan out, it was straight through to Ararat, yep another efen stop, this time for food. There is a back road from Ararat, but last time I travelled it it was a bit rough, so I opted for the main Hwy to Stawell and turn off to Halls Gap.
Come home Via Dunkeld, Ballart, not a bad bit of Hwy bit rough in small areas, but with the minister wanting to get somewhere, it only took 3 hrs from Hall Gap, via Dunkeld, Ballart and on to Melb. Bloody amazing what a woman can do when she wants to do it. Honestly sir we was only doing 100 Filled the 2 tanks at Ballart, me bum near fell out me pants 50 oxford scholars. Ok I know we was playing but $50. it cost us more for fuel for the weekend than it did for Booze, Food and a Bed.

Just did another trip there, stayed once again at troppers, the place is still bearing scares from the bush fires. Still had some great fun, now that the Rex handles a lot better than a pig, the cure a 005 shinko front tyre, bloody falls into corners now. But we came home $430 lighter and 6 points of the old licenses, grrrrrr, watch out for the Stawell TMG, bold headed barstard ( claims his a rider ) just does not play fair, yes guilty as sin, and not bitching, his a dirty low life prick and he knows it. If it was not such a pain in the ass and a huge loss, in income more than the fines are worth, we'd fight him in court. Utter scum.
